genae Hi Phil and Kim -
Kim, you don't know me. :) Philip, it's been forever! I know it is really random that I am posting a comment on your blog...but, I read this post after seeing your link on FB and couldn't help it. I went through the same thoughts a couple of years ago about choosing to do good - sustainable, long lasting good for others - with my money...and so I thought I'd share a few of my thoughts. If you check out a website about conscious consumerism ( http://www.newdream.org/marketplace/index.php ) it lists a whole array of great nonprofits and for profit business you can spend your money at that are doing good things, both environmentally, and socially, around the world. it's a great way to remember that something as simple as the shoes we walk in can have an impact across the world.
if you guys are looking for a specific organization to support, check out Love146. ( www.love146.org ) they are an INCREDIBLE organization of people who work to prevent child sex trafficking...they work in prevention and aftercare. I have the privilege of knowing the CEO and founder and they are just an amazing group of people doing amazing work against one of the grossest injustices around the world.
peace! hope the newlywed life is wonderful.
Lynn Leaming Kimberly,
Had fun reading your blog. I love blogging and keeping in touch with what God is doing in other's lives and seeing the pictures. I think it is great that you and Phillip are listening to God's call and trying to be faithful to obey. We could all learn from your example as I for one could also simplify and use much more of my time and money for His purposes.
